School shuts as fears raised over building's safety

Pupils enrolled at the school will instead be moved to another school over two and a half miles away.

The decision to close Carway Community Primary School in Kidwelly was made after Carmarthenshire Council was given structural advice for the Block Three section of the school estate.

Red flags were first raised when a condition survey of the Carway school estate took place under the local authority's monitoring programme.

This survey identified the need for a further structural investigation of the block, which was undertaken during the summer holidays. In January, a school in Cardiff undertook a similar move as its building reached the end of its life.
