Give our history a proper perspective
Carmarthen Journal
|February 25, 2026
I WAS tempted in university to study history, but I found there was no future in it.
Since then I realised our approach to history and heritage is fatally flawed. As one involved in writing about local heritage I confess I am sometimes part of the deception, despite not being at all fazed when needing to 'spoil a good story by telling the truth'.Yet the obsession in history with the rich, powerful and famous is a noxious cloud which hangs over and sometimes obscures the history of the non-elite and the impact of their legacy.
