Cafe bar fundraising for pupils' special play area

A CARMARTHEN cafe bar has launched a fundraising effort to help a special education unit achieve its dream of a new sensory outdoor play area for pupils.

Canolfan Elfed at the town's QE High School, has almost 100 pupils with additional learning needs and has set its sights on new play equipment and flooring. The project is estimated to cost £275,000.

The school's efforts to date towards the Canolfan Elfed play area include events, sponsorships and partnerships with Rotary clubs - which have raised approximately £20,000 already. Money has also been raised by staff running the London Marathon and participating in the local raft race as part of the town's river festival.

Nigel Cooke, QE High School's business manager, said: “The previous outdoor space was unsafe and unsuitable and we want to replace it with a versatile, inclusive and student-designed space that meets the unique needs of our pupils.”
