Public have their say: Revenue Amendment Bill

Capricorn Review

April 23, 2025

A POPULAR sentiment among those who participated in the 2025 Division of Revenue Amendment Bill discussions in Polokwane was that local governments, often referred to as municipalities, should receive a larger portion of the overall budget.

- KOKETSO SEKHWELA

Residents from various Limpopo municipalities gathered at the Jack Botes Hall in Polokwane on Tuesday for a public hearing chaired by Mmusi Maimane, alongside other members of the Standing Committee on Appropriations.

Maimane explained that the purpose of the hearings was to allow the public to provide input on the division of the government budget moving forward, and he highlighted that other areas would also be visited.

Participants felt that local and district municipalities required more funding as they directly handled mass basic service delivery, including bulk water supply, free housing in some areas like Polokwane, and road maintenance.
