Why Even the Strongest Women Need Space to Breathe
Capital Information
|July 01, 2025
Women achievers are often celebrated for their drive, their resilience, and their remarkable ability to balance multiple roles and expectations.
-
From boardrooms to classrooms, from startup pitches to political arenas, they are praised for breaking barriers and setting new standards. But behind the applause and accolades lies a question that is rarely asked, let alone answered — where do ambitious women go when they're tired?
This tiredness is not the kind that can be cured by a good night's sleep or a weekend getaway. It is a quieter, deeper exhaustion, emotional, mental and spiritual. It builds up slowly, often invisibly, beneath the surface of relentless schedules. Demanding roles, and responsibilities. It's the fatigue of always showing up, always performing, always pushing through.
According to a Deloitte woman @work report, 53 percent of women say their stress levels are higher than they were a year ago, and many report feeling burned out, with more than half saying they plan to leave their employer within two years. This kind of attrition isn’t rooted in a lack of ambition but in a lack of support.
Women are constantly expected to prove themselves. Success is applauded, but the struggle is often met with silence or scepticism. When a woman climbs the ladder, she’s told she can have it all, but she’s rarely warned about the cost of maintaining it all.
