PM Modi unveils Rs 62,000-cr youth empowerment schemes in Bihar

Ahead of the Bihar Assembly polls, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today criticised the misgovernance of the previous Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) administration, comparing their rule to a tree infested with worms — its roots rotten and diseased — which compelled Bihar's youth to migrate in search of opportunities.

Reflecting on Bihar's condition two to two-and-a-half decades ago, the Prime Minister said the education system was in a shambles, with schools remaining closed and recruitment processes stalled.

"This neglect forced lakhs of young people to leave their homes in Bihar, migrating to cities like Banaras, Delhi, and Mumbai in search of opportunities," he said while addressing gathering of youth at an event here as he launched a series of schemes worth Rs 62,000 crore aimed at empowering them with education and skills.

“Fortunately, with the people's trust in Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and the coalition government's collective efforts, these deeply rooted problems began to be addressed." Modi described the day's programme is "a testament to the remarkable transformation underway in Bihar."

Highlighting that in the past years, the Bihar government has connected 50 lakh youth with employment opportunities within the state, the Prime Minister noted that nearly 10 lakh permanent government jobs have been provided to the youth in recent years.
