New dimensions of green energy production

In a rapidly changing global scenario, where climate change and energy security concerns are on the rise, India has taken an adventurous step towards green hydrogen.

Green hydrogen is often called future fuel. India wants to play a leading role in realizing it. A key stop in this direction came when the Green Hydrogen Certification Scheme was launched during a 'national workshop' held in New Delhi recently. The scheme is an integral part of India's National Green Hydrogen Mission. It is a clean energy carrier, which means it can be used by storing this energy, but it is not the primary source of energy. When hydrogen is used as a fuel, it only releases water that does not cause any harmful emissions. It makes it an attractive alternative to fossil fuels such as coal, oil and gas, which emit carbon dioxides and other pollutants on burning. It is usually identified by colours on the manner basis of production of hydrogen. Hydrogen is extracted using natural gas or other fossil fuels in 'grey 'grey hydrogen'. In this process a large amount of carbon dioxide is excreted, which is greenhouse gas and contributes to climate change.
