Nagarjuna Sagar Reservoir nears full capacity; Ministers release water downstream

With the Nagarjuna Sagar reservoir nearing full capacity, Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy and SC and ST Welfare Minister Adluri Laxman on Tuesday formally released water downstream by lifting the crest gates.

Officials said 78,060 cusecs of water are currently being discharged through 14 gates opened to a height of five feet. The reservoir has been receiving heavy inflows due to upstream rains, with the inflow recorded at 2,28,900 cusecs and the outflow at 1,18,790 cusecs.
