Empowered democracy only by the strong foundation of justice

If justice is not only ensured in society, all claims of democracy, constitution, and development seem to be hollow. The picture that India Justice Report 2025 introduced the country's judicial system is shocking. This report assesses states based on the performance of four pillars, police, jail, judiciary and legal aid. The report suggests that the common Indian citizen still has to go through a long, difficult and sometimes abusive process to get justice. The state of human rights in the country is becoming alarming. This is not just the statement of international agencies, but a confirmed truth from statistics.

The condition of prisons is so pitiable that the prisons of many states have a multitude of prisoners of more than 150 percent. Most of these prisoners are under consideration, i.e. they have not been convicted by any court, yet they have been in imprisonment for years. This situation is not just a failure of law but also a violation of the right to life and personal liberty in Article 21 of the Constitution. The police, who are the first link to the justice process, are struggling with a crisis of accountability and transparency themselves.
