In-office practices that support well-being

HIGHLY successful leaders understand the importance of self-care as a foundation for their efficacy and well-being.

- PETER KRIEL

There is a plethora of literature on this topic; often focusing on aspects such as healthy eating, adequate sleep and regular exercise all of which are good habits to maintain. However, little focus is given to those “in-office” self-care practices that compound over time and make a tremendous difference to a person’s quality of life, career success and fulfilment.

Workday optimisation

As year-end nears, most people are looking forward to the holidays. But 2026 and a fresh year of work is not far behind the break - so this is a good time to think about the in-office practices that will enable you to give work your best in the new year.

While it is important to build those habits that support mental and physical well-being outside of work, the eight hours plus of a workday should also be harnessed to ensure optimal and ongoing well-being to avoid burnout.

Although specific in-office self-care habits vary from person to person, there are some fundamental ones that successful people employ to improve both their personal well-being and their performance as leaders and managers.
