Hawks analyst testifies in camera about R300 million drug trafficking case

Cape Times

THE testimony of an analyst linked to the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) was heard in-camera yesterday at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry due to the sensitivity of his evidence and the risk it posed to his safety and that of his family.

- RAPULA MOATSHE

The commission ruled in favour of the applicant, who argued that his evidence implicated businessman Tumelo Nku in allegedly tipping off Gauteng traffic inspector Samuel Mashaba about the movement of high-value cocaine worth R300 million from Durban Harbour to Aeroton in Johannesburg in July 2021

The inquiry also heard that Warrant Officer Marumo Magane, commander of the Crime Information Management and Analysis Centre at SAPS Zonkizizwe, became involved in the seizure of 750kg of cocaine after Mashaba contacted him about a potential drug bust.
