Concern over declining Western Cape dam levels
Cape Times
|March 25, 2026
THE Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) has expressed concern over the South African Weather Service’s predictions of lower-than-normal rainfall in some parts of the Western Cape over the next two months, which could lead to negligible inflows into dam storage.
This follows a period of below-average rainfall, which has already resulted in declining dam storage levels across the province. The department has called on the public to continue using water sparingly by reducing water demand, lessening reliance on surface water, exploring alternative water sources, repairing leaks, and refraining from vandalising water infrastructure.
