A pregnant woman's life spirals out of control after a car accident

FREIDA McFadden is a master story teller, crafting a story that grips the reader from the word go. Her latest work is a supreme example of a top notch psychological thriller, immersing so thoroughly that it's almost impossible to put down until the very end.

- ORIELLE BERRY

She is to boot a prolific writer, with more than 20 books under her belt in her highly impressive repertoire, so you may want to read others as well. But not before this one!. At the core of this superbly thought-out novel is Tegan, a young woman with a life that is, to put it mildly, not going very well after a chance encounter leads to an unwanted pregnancy. She can barely look after after herself and now as her midriff is pregnant with child deep into her eighth month, she is really on the edge.

Her brother Dennis invites her to spend a long weekend with him, living quite a distance from the city where she lives in Maine.

However, snow is forecast and residents in and around her area are advised to take extreme care, especially on the slippery roads.

But Tegan, somewhat stretched financially, decides to first work a shift at the store where she's employed. Against her better judgment, it's late, the weather outside already threatening and as she gets into her not too reliable car it's not too long after that the falling snow intensifies and the heavily pregnant woman struggles in the barely visible conditions.

So it's almost inevitable when she loses control of her vehicle in the thick storm, crashing on the side of the treacherous road.
