Confusion over land expropriation

IT is intriguing and, could be comical was it not such a serious matter, that both proponents and opponents of the Land Expropriation Act continue to misinterpret just what it is and meant to achieve.

For the ANC as the main player in the Government of National Unity (GNU), there is self-delusion that the act is meant to address the land disparities in South Africa.

But this is just a ruse not to address the real problem. Expropriation of land by the state for what is termed public interest, is not land restitution and does absolutely nothing to address the land disparities that still exist.

What it means is that the state is going to expropriate land - after a protracted legal process - which it deems to be appropriate for the use for the ‘public interest’, whatever it may be.
