Busway users in call for action on 'slow' journeys

GUIDED busway users are calling for the county council to take urgent action as journeys have become overcrowded and slow since a speed limit was reduced.

Speed limits along the Cambridgeshire guided busway were reduced from 30mph to 20mph at the start of October. The speed limit, expected to be in place until the end of 2026, is to allow for permanent safety fencing and barriers to be installed along the busway.

As a result of the reduced speed limit, it has resulted in “dire consequences” for those travelling between St Ives and Cambridge, according to the Cambridge Area Bus Users group.

A group spokesperson said it has resulted in a “significant reduction in peak-time capacity and increased journey times”. The group is calling on Cambridgeshire County Council to provide funds for additional services to reduce congestion during peak times.
