Aeolian is ready to hit target on royal Ayr raid for Haggas
Cambridge News
|September 18, 2025
WILLIAM Haggas will be banking on Aeolian showing the spark that saw her given a Group One entry when she lines up in the British Stallion Studs Scottish Premier Series EBF Fillies’ Handicap at Ayr.
The three-year-old daughter of Fastnet Rock, who was bred by the late Queen Elizabeth II and is owned by the King and Queen, was last seen trailing the field in the Listed Galtres Stakes at York. Still just lightly raced, Aeolian holds an entry for the Fillies & Mares Stakes on Champions Day at Ascot next month and while that is probably unlikely, she is not one to write off just yet.
Financer will be boosted by the return to the scene of his last victory as the Tim Easterby gelding defends his Ladbrokes “Free Bet At Ayr” Kilkerran Handicap crown.
The four-year-old has been knocking on the door all season without getting into the winner's enclosure, finishing runner-up three times in nine starts.
His mark of 83 is only 2Ib higher than last year and it could bea return to the Scottish coastal racecourse for the first time since landing this Class Two contest 12 months will be the tonic he needs to get his nose back in front.
Spinning Wheel should learn from his experience in the Queen's Vase at Royal Ascot to lead the way in the Tennent's Lager Handicap.
