Textile exports to US jumped 9% in July on pre-tariff rush

A rush by US textile and apparel companies and their Indian suppliers to ship goods before the Donald Trump administration's new tariff on India took effect led to a 9.1 per cent year-on-year (Y-o-Y) rise in India's exports in July.
On a month-on-month basis, exports grew 12 per cent over June, according to data shared by the Office of Textiles and Apparel (OTEXA), part of the US International Trade Administration.
An analysis by the Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI) said that despite this growth, India's expansion remained significantly lower than that of its key competitors in the year-to-date period.
Exporters from Tiruppur told Business Standard that while major US brands have agreed to continue with existing orders for the upcoming summer season, they are doing so at a discount of 5-8 per cent, depending on the margins of Indian exporters.
