The Archdiocese of Cebu has called on the faithful to intensify prayers for peace, practice responsible energy use, and extend greater assistance to the poor as global tensions continue to affect everyday life in the Philippines.

- By CARMEL PEDROZA

In a pastoral message addressed to priests, religious, and lay faithful, Cebu Archbishop Alberto Uy urged the Catholic community to respond with faith and solidarity amid growing uncertainty linked to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

“Recent developments in the Middle East remind us once again how fragile peace in our world can be. As war continues in that region, we are already beginning to feel its effects even herein our country,’the archbishop said.

Uy noted that one of the immediate consequences of the conflict is the rising price of oil, which is expected to impact transportation costs, electricity rates, and the prices of basic commodities.

Call to pray for peace

THE archbishop first appealed to parishes across the archdiocese to pray for peace, especially during Mass.
