Bill strengthens, professionalizes political parties
Business Mirror
|February 25, 2026
LAWMAKERS from the Liberal Party have filed a measure seeking to strengthen and professionalize political parties, positioning them as genuine engines of national development and good governance in the Philippines.
Through House Bill 7914, or the proposed Political Party System Reform Act filed Monday, Party-list Rep. Leila de Lima of Mamamayang Liberal, along with fellow LP lawmakers, aims to transform political parties into stable, program-driven, and accountable institutions rather than patronage-based groups centered on personalities and political convenience.
Coauthors include Reps. Adrian Michael Amatong of Zamboanga del Norte, Arlene Bag-ao of Dinagat Islands, Jaime Fresnedi of Muntinlupa City, Cielo Krisel Lagman of Albay, and Alfonso V. Umali Jr. of Oriental Mindoro.
