RECORD NUMBER OF YOUNGSTERS IN SUMMER READING CHALLENGE

'Reading is such an important skill for children to have - the younger they start the better'

MORE than 10,500 children signed up for this year's Summer Reading Challenge across Staffordshire - a record-breaking number.

Aimed at keeping children reading throughout the summer holidays, the challenge encouraged them to complete six books of their choice.

The challenge also involved hundreds of events across the county's libraries - such as readings by a popular children's author and Dr Dolittle story adventures.
