Plan to create east and west authority to take next step

PLANS to create two new unitary councils for East Staffordshire are taking their next steps - despite 'significant risk and high cost'.
A Local Government Reorganisation proposal which could see the creation of two new councils Staffordshire East and Staffordshire West is set to be discussed at an upcoming meeting.
If taken forward by the Government, the Staffordshire East council would provide services for 689,784 people in East Staffordshire, Staffordshire Moorlands, Lichfield, Tamworth and Stoke-on-Trent using the existing district and borough council boundaries.
The Staffordshire West council would serve 487,794 people in Newcastle-under-Lyme, Stafford, Cannock Chase and South Staffordshire.
Staffordshire County Council's proposal, based on Government criteria and financial modelling, will be presented at a meeting of the full council on October 23.
