'My generation has a good work ethic!'

GREAT-GRAN, 77, CELEBRATING THE MILESTONE OF WORKING BEHIND GARAGE COUNTER FOR 45 YEARS

AN Alrewas great-grandmother has celebrated 45 years of serving the local community.

Dot Ryan, 77, is the longest-serving member of staff at Gulf Ivy Garage, on Rykneld Street, working behind the till three days a week.

She joined the team as maternity cover in 1980 and 45 years later has no plans of stopping, attributing her longevity to her youthful spirit.

A familiar face on the forecourt in her four decades of service, Dot has seen lots of changes in the village and the garage too, having joined when petrol cost just 32p a litre.

"I just love the job," said Dot, who lives on Kings Bromley Road. "It keeps your mind sharp talking to all sorts of people all day, and I always stand at the till for the full shift, so it keeps me active.
