NEW FIGURES SHOW PRIVATE RENTS IN BURTON HAVE RISEN BY ALMOST 3% IN 10 YEARS

'Families are being crushed under the weight of unaffordable rents'

PRIVATE rents in East Staffordshire have become more expensive over the past 10 years.

According to new figures from the ONS, private renters in Burton are spending a higher percentage of their income on rent.

In 2015/16, private renters spent 22.5 per cent of their income on rent compared to 25.2 per cent in 2023/24.

There's a different story in South Derbyshire, where the percentage fell from 24.4 per cent to 21.8 per cent. It also dropped in North West Leicestershire, from 24.9 per cent to 22.9 per cent.

Private renters on the average household income spent 36.3 per cent of their income on an average-priced rented home in England in 2024.
