OPENLY AUTISTIC COUNCILLOR 'EXTREMELY PROUD' TO BECOME NEW CHAIR OF THE AUTHORITY

- By JOSEPH RICHARDS

'Council has shown that disability should be no barrier to success'

THE existing alliance of Conservative, Liberal Democrat and independent members has retained control of North West Leicestershire District Council (NWLDC).

Now a new chair and deputy, along with a new leader and deputy, have been named at last week's full council meeting.

Outgoing chair, Cllr Kenny Horn, announced the new incumbent would be Cllr Paul Lees, with Cllr Jenny Simmons appointed as his deputy.

The meeting confirmed the existing alliance will continue to be the ruling administration, and returned Cllr Richard Blunt as leader, with Cllr Michael Wyatt retaining the position of deputy.

Cllr Lees, who has represented Measham North since 2023, announced that as well as chairing full council meetings and representing the authority at a host of events across Leicestershire, his charity of the year is the National Autistic Society.
