All aboard the Hispaniola as it sails back to Bristol with Jayde Adams at the helm! NATALIE BANYARD talks to the acclaimed comedian and actress about Treasure Island: A New Musical Adventure! at Bristol Old Vic
Morgan Val Baker and Jack Heydon in rehearsals
SHOWS don’t come much more ‘Bristol’ than Treasure Island: A New Musical Adventure! With a story inspired by King Street pub Llandoger Trow, premiering over the road at Bristol Old Vic, and with our very own Bristolian goddess Jayde Adams at the helm, this is about as Bristol as it gets!
“This is THE most Bristolian thing that’s ever happened!” says the actress, writer, singer, and multiple award-winning comedian when I catch up with her during rehearsals. “All that needs to happen now, is I get whisked off in a hot air balloon by Brian Steel from Bristol Carpet Factory!”
Playing at The Bristol Old Vic from December 4 to January 10, Robert Louis Stevenson's classic tale is brought to glorious new life as a brand-new musical by Jake Brunger and Pippa Cleary (the writing duo behind West End hits The Great British Bake Off Musical and The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13%) and directer Paul Foster (The Cabinet Minister, White Christmas).
Jayde will star as Benita Gunn and Jim Hawkins's mother in this Christmas show full of hidden treasure, pirate-y peril, original new music, and more fun than you can shake a wooden leg at.
Jayde will be joined aboard by a company of multi-instrumentalist actors, including up-and-coming performer Adryne Caulder-James in the lead role of Jim Hawkins; Cornish actor, comedian, and below-knee amputee Colin Leggo in the iconic role of Long John Silver; and stage and screen actor and musician Morgan Val Baker as Squire Trelawney/Black Dog.
Although no stranger to Bristol Old Vic through her stand-up comedy and as part of Bristol Old Vic Young Company as a child, Treasure Island marks Jayde's professional stage acting debut.
