Oduwaiye, who is based in the city studying at the university, finished fourth in the F44 event at the World Para Athletics Championships as a throw of 37.91m saw her fall short of the podium by just more than a metre.

Closely behind her was teammate Cronin, with both athletes the same age - 22 - and originally hailing from Wales.

Cronin was making her senior international debut and delivered an admirable performance with an effort of 37.69m.

Oduwaiye, who competes in both discus and shot put, flew the British flag solo in the event in Kobe last year and hopes having Cronin by her side can propel them both forward.
