Pair of 22p stamps could sell for £20k at city auction
Bristol Post
|October 08, 2025
A PAIR of 22p 'error stamps' which managed to escape the shredder 40 years ago are set to sell for more than £20,000 at auction in Bristol.
-
One of the stamps
The rare 1985 British stamps had a combined 44p face value and were widely thought to have been shredded at the time.
They were part of what became known as the Rural Postbus Error as they had missing perforations.
The printers produced one sheet of 100 unperforated stamps by mistake, which was pulped when the error was discovered, but miraculously just this pair escaped.
