Omochere injury worry for Rovers in uninspiring game

ALTHOUGH they couldn’t extend their winning streak in League Two to five games, Bristol Rovers did make it seven matches unbeaten across all competitions with a 1-1 draw at Colchester United on an afternoon where they struggled to reach previous performance levels.

Luke Southwood was required to make two good saves in the first half before, slightly against the run of play, Fabrizio Cavegn put Rovers ahead on 40 minutes with a fantastic finish after a delightful through ball from Alfie Chang.

A slow start to the second half from the Gas was punished as teenager Micah Mbick slotted home in the area seven minutes after the break.

From that point, both teams had spells but never really took the game by the horns and ultimately settled for a draw.

Darrell Clarke’s side have played far better than that in recent matches while also demonstrating there is still clear room for improvement. Still only nine games in, it is encouraging that Rovers are picking up results even when nowhere near their best.
