Ninja sword amnesty Police plea to owners ahead of legal deadline

ANYONE with a ninja sword in Bristol and Somerset is being offered compensation if they surrender the weapon - but only for a short period of time.
The Home Office launched its Ninja Sword Surrender and Compensation Scheme yesterday (Tuesday).
The scheme will run for the entire month of July across England and Wales, offering people the chance to surrender their weapon before possession of the blades becomes illegal, on August 1.
Throughout July, Avon and Somerset Police are urging people to safely surrender any ninja swords they own at designated police stations.
While all ninja swords can be handed in, owners will only qualify for financial compensation if they can prove that they purchased the sword before March 27, 2025. The right to compensation runs until 11.59pm on July 31.
The Home Office said: “The standard compensation amount for each surrendered weapon will be £5, though applicants will be able to claim the value of their weapon if it exceeds this amount.”
The following Avon and Somerset police stations will accept surrendered ninja swords:
