'I'm struggling mentally and financially' Shop owner in support plea

THE owner of The Haunted Bookshop in Stokes Croft has warned she is unsure how long the business can survive amid rising industry costs.

- Ellie KENDALL

Monika Killer admitted she is looking for a second job to pay her personal rent while struggling to cover high overheads.

"Like so many small businesses in Bristol, we're really struggling to keep up with rising costs," she said in a statement to customers.

"Our overheads are high, and the less money we make, the less we're able to offer in the shop. Free community events, gatherings, and creative spaces simply aren’t possible if we can’t keep the doors open."

The Lithuanian-born business owner opened The Haunted Bookshop in a former barbershop in September 2024. It stocks a range of witchy and occult-themed books and products.
