For sale Area's last pub is back on market after failed demolition bid

THE last pub in a Bristol neighbourhood has gone on the market after planning permission to transform it into homes was rejected by the council.

The Giant Goram in Lawrence Weston is currently on the market with a freehold price of £281,000.

The 1960s purpose-built pub is situated in a large housing estate on Barrowmead Drive and was bought by Hawkfield Homes in 2019, which applied to Bristol City Council for permission to knock it down and build eight houses there, as well as a new “micropub”.

But the plans faced stiff opposition, as the micropub would have space for only a few customers, and there are no other pubs nearby. A local community group, Save the Giant Goram, campaigned to buy the pub and reopen it, offering a range of activities.
