'An invaluable resource' – new geological map of channel

A DRAMATICALLY expanded geological map of the Bristol Channel has been unveiled, promising to guide the future of offshore wind, tidal energy and coastal development in one of the UK's most dynamic marine environments.

The British Geological Survey (BGS) has published high-resolution seabed maps covering almost four times the area of its previous version, stretching from Carmarthen Bay to Newport and extending south to the Somerset coast.
The update comes as demand for renewable energy infrastructure continues to surge and marine developers seek reliable, fine-scale geological data to guide investment and construction.
The Bristol Channel, home to the world's second-largest tidal range, is a prime location for tidal and wave energy schemes.
