The CX-80 is a rare treat for diesel fans

DIESELS have fallen out of favour in recent times with the big push to go all-electric - but not with Mazda.

So, in introducing its new seven-seater CX-80 SUV the Japanese car maker decided to offer the sort of diesel that everyone enjoys driving: A big beefy 3.3-litre straight six to make the going easy.
There is a four-cylinder plug-in hybrid petrol alternative but diesel fans won’t want to know about that.
Boasting 500Nm of torque and with the help of a mild hybrid system incorporating a 17bhp electric motor this diesel offers powerful performance, hitting 62mph in just 8.4 seconds and going on to 136mph, some 13mph more than the plug-in hybrid.
And that's impressive performance for a vehicle which measures well over 16ft long and weighs in at nearly 2.8 tonnes, dwarfing other cars on the car park.
