THE LATEST VERSION OF THE ENTRY LEVEL BMW IS ONE TO ASPIRE TO, WRITES EDWARD STEPHENS
-
IF you're looking to join the premium hatchback brigade the latest BMW 1 Series is the range to check out.
With a new-look front and rear, an improved quality interior and a mild hybrid engine offering sharp performance with sensible economy it’s now the one to beat.
The 1 Series has been around for more than 20 years and established itself as the entry level model for those anxious to drive a car with the coveted blue and white badge on the bonnet.
And over those two decades there have been some pretty dramatic changes, including switching from rear-wheel-drive to front-wheel-drive.
So what's the latest version like? Well, pretty good actually.
From the moment you take the driver's seat everything feels right and everything falls easily to hand, which is always a good start.
There are just three models and two powertrains in the range which keeps things simple, and for most people it will be the entry level and more affordable BMW 120 mild hybrid which will appeal.
