PLANS by Japanese clothing giant Uniqlo to install signs above its new Bullring store have been rejected by the council over concerns they would impact St Martin's Church.

The Bullring shopping centre announced the upcoming arrival of Uniqlo at the end of March after calls from Brummies for the casualwear brand to open in the city.

The three-floor shop will fill the empty Zara unit outside the mall following the retailer's move to the upper level of the old Debenhams inside.

Uniqlo bosses called the step, which will mark the first Uniqlo opening in the Midlands, as 'a key strategic step' for the brand.
