BRUM NEIGHBOURHOODS LIKE CHALK AND CHEESE

- RICHARD GUTTERIDGE

THEY are two areas next door to each other in north Birmingham.

While both experience challenges, their crime rates couldn't be more different.

One is among Birmingham's crime capitals, while just a few streets away residents live in relative peace and calm.

The two areas are Aston and Nechells.

Aston is one of the highest-crime areas in the city, second only to the Lozells and East Handsworth policing area.

More than 2,300 violent and sexual offences were recorded by police in the 12 months to January.
