Polestar pamper for you... and your pooch

- EDWARD STEPHENS

I CAN'T remember the last time I drove a car which packed in as many surprises as the radical new Polestar 4.

Who but Polestar would be bold enough to design an electric car with no rear window and, at the same time, be thoughtful enough to create a special environment for when you need to leave your dog alone in the car.

Add interior ambience settings based on planets as well as gold seatbelts to match the gold brake calipers and it soon becomes obvious that Polestar likes to do things differently.

And it's off the wall thinking like that which is going to appeal to buyers who are looking for something different in a market of lookalike models where competition is fierce.

Having no rear window is certainly radical and is likely to divide opinion. You still have an interior mirror but the view in it is provided by rear facing cameras on the sides and the top of the car. There are 12 cameras in total.

During normal driving it works very well but when reversing the accurate perception of distance from anything at the rear is not always that clear.
