BRUMMIES HIT BACK AT PROMINENT TORY AFTER HANDSWORTH COMMENTS

- AYOUB KHAN

There has been a powerful backlash to comments made by Conservative would-be leader Robert Jenrick about the Birmingham community of Handsworth, home to around 12,000 Brummies of all backgrounds, heritage and faith.

Writing for the Birmingham Mail, he set out why he thinks Jenrick needs to apologise. This is what he had to say...

“IN recent months, Robert Jenrick - a man whose campaign for the Tory leadership never truly ended after his loss to Kemi Badenoch - has devoted his every waking moment to branding himself as someone of common sense, concerned with bringing all communities under one roof.

“Among the various locations on his belated campaign trail was Handsworth, a community which at the time - was in the throes of a citywide bin strike. Without hesitation, Jenrick eyed up the largest piles of rubbish and seized the opportunity to bemoan how residents were not taking responsibility for the cleanliness of their streets.
