Super mum Verity takes on Great North Run
Birmingham Mail
|November 17, 2025
A MUM who laced up her running shoes to take on the Great North Run as thanks for the care her daughter receives for a rare condition has raised more than £3,000 for Birmingham Children's Hospital Charity.
-
Verity Robertson, from Sutton Coldfield, completed the 13.1-mile half-marathon distance in September to say thank you to Birmingham Children's Hospital, where her three-year-old daughter, Marnie has been treated by specialist teams ever since she was born.
Marnie was born with a bowel obstruction, which had been picked up during one of Verity's antenatal scans. It was devastating news and it was unclear as to how severe Marnie's condition would be, but as plans began to be made to transfer her to Birmingham Children's Hospital should she need surgery as soon as she was born, Verity and her husband Blair knew their little girl would be in safe hands.
That day came in March 2022 and at two days old Marnie was whisked off to the Children's Hospital where she underwent surgery to remove the part of her bowel affected by the obstruction.
