Northfield win title after unbeaten season

THE Harborne and District League have completed their domestic fixtures and taking the league title with a superb 28 wins in 28 games is Northfield Conservative Club, their 56 points, six more than runners-up Copper Fox 'M' who rounded off their season with a 6-3 win at Northfield Darts Club who finished fourth with 46 points.

Copper Fox 'R' had an 8-1 win over fifth-placed Smethwick Cricket Club but lost out on the number two spot as they went down 6-3 at Weoley Castle in a rearranged fixture to finish two points behind local rivals Copper Fox 'M. Windsor Complex took the wooden spoon with one win in 28 games.

There were three maximums in the closing fixtures and they came from A.Harvey (Copper Fox 'M'), M.Bolton (Weoley Castle WMC) and A.Busby (Northfield Darts Club). R.Needham (Northfield Darts Club) had a 160 break.

The Shirley and District Monday Night League are up to week 13 of their season and leading the way in division one is the Bears whose latest fixture against Tippetts Bar was postponed, nevertheless the Bears' 18 points is enough for them to hold on to pole position with second placed Langley 'A' reducing the arrears to just two points with their 8-1 win over local rivals Langley 'B'. Third placed Tippetts Bar are on the same 16 points as Langley 'A' and have a game in hand on both of the teams above them. Royals' Alex Lloyd scored a maximum in his team's 5-4 home win over bottom of the division HSCC.

Banbury kept their title hopes on course in division two, handing out a 9-0 whitewash to their hosts, bottom team Saracens 'A' Banbury have a six-point advantage plus a game in hand on second in the division Wharf who lost ground in the title race as they went down 5-4 away to fifth in the division Saracens Slingers.

Third-placed Shirley Misfits are on the same 16 points, and are just one leg of average short of Wharf, they also lost, finishing on the wrong side of the 6-3 result away to fourth placed Nomads, Neil Comerford notching a maximum for the Misfits.
