FIGURES SHOW WEST MIDLANDS HEALTH BOARDS ARE AT ROCK BOTTOM

NHS league tables are a wake-up call for trusts

NEW NHS league tables rating hospital trusts across the country show a Birmingham organisation is rock bottom with two more featuring very low down.

The Department of Health and Social Care released what it called “landmark” league tables in a “bid to drive up standards”.

In a table of non-acute trusts - covering organisations offering maintenance or long-term care - Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust placed 61st of 61 trusts with a 3.34 rating.

Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust also ranked poorly, in 55th position with a rating of 2.90.

In the acute hospitals table, for bodies offering short-term treatment, usually in a hospital, University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust also featured near the bottom.

It was ranked 128th of 134 trusts with a rating of 2.97.

All three Birmingham trusts were in Segment 4 - the lowest of the rankings “with the first segment representing the best-performing areas and the fourth segment showing the most challenged”.

The best acute trust in the country was Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (rating 1.39) in London.
