Matty: We need fans to help us Cash in on Euro place

MATTY Cash says it feels like some Villa fans can be “a little bit against” the team following disappointing results and has called for perspective on the club's rapid rise under Unai Emery.

- By JOHN TOWNLEY

Since taking over at Villa Park in November 2022, Emery has transformed the club steering it away from relegation trouble, reaching the semi-finals of the Europa Conference League, fin-ishing fourth in the Premier League and progressing to the last eight of the Champions League.

Villa have also successfully managed their European commitments over two seasons, although they had struggled in domestic cup competitions until reaching the FA Cup semi-finals this year.

Their no-show at Wembley against Crystal Palace was a setback, but Villa still have much to play for in the final three weeks of the campaign. Champions League qualification is the aim, though staying in Europe for a third successive season would also be a big achievement in itself.
