Fly-tipping situation 'getting out of control'

SHOCKING new images have emerged showing the “nightmare” fly-tipping situation in Birmingham, which has spiralled “out of control” as bin strikes could continue until next spring.

- ED CHATTERTON News Reporter

Unite, the union representing the striking workers, has revealed that its members have voted to extend their industrial action beyond Christmas and into March 2026, marking a full year since the strike began.

The stark photos illustrate the severity of the situation, with mountains of bin bags and tonnes of discarded rubbish still strewn across many suburbs, eight months into the dispute.

Local business owners have described the fly-tipping problem as “out of control’, while some residents feel they are living in conditions akin to those in “Third World” countries.

Other exasperated local folk have reported finding maggots crawling around inside their wheelie bins, with no end in sight to the longstanding issue plaguing the city.

Moseley-based musician Sal Watts, 34, said: “It is an absolute scandal that this hasn’t been resolved yet.

“If it happened in London, they would have sorted it within days. This is the longest running strike I can ever recall and it has left us living in Third World conditions.

“I’m ashamed to have friends and family who don't live here come and visit me, because it is just an embarrassment.

“The fly-tipping is out of control too, the place has become lawless and the council cannot cope”
