LIZZIE MCALLISTER finds a determination to make tourism greener in the idyllic paradise of Mauritius

The island’s remote location is a challenge to this ethos, but ingredients are sourced locally where possible and visitors are encouraged to lengthen their stays to minimise the impact of their long-haul flights.
The group boasts three adult-only and four family-friendly destinations in Mauritius, all three or four stars.
I split my time between two four-star venues. I spent two nights in the adults-only Sunrise Hotel, while the rest of my holiday was passed at the sprawling beachside Zilwa Hotel, which welcomes guests of all ages. Sunrise may be smaller but still boasts several restaurants, a mini gym, a spa and several pools.
