Dancing your troubles away

CHOREOGRAPHER Rhiannon Faith's award-nominated Lay Down Your Burdens is a dance piece like no other.

- DAVE FREAK

Set in a mockpub, where audience members are invited to pull up a chair, it explores our need to share our experiences for an immersive and ultimately cathartic performance.

“From the very start, this show is all about inviting you in,” says Rhiannon of the welcoming nature of the show. “We've got pub games, sing-a-longs, a whole lot of fun, and, most importantly, a space where we share the things we carry.”

Thanks to the contributions of those attending, who tell their own personal stories, each performance is utterly unique.

“Every night, the audience brings something different to the table, which means the show is never the same twice. The cast is incredible, fully rehearsed, and always ready to respond to what's happening in the room.

“If you're not feeling up for participation, you can opt out with a sticker, but honestly, most people jump right in - they’re excited to share and get involved”

Premiered at London’s Barbican in 2023, the work came out of a desire to create a theatre experience where the audience would feel connected and maybe, just for a moment, have their load lightened.
