Blues had to deal with an onslaught from the Hornets in the closing stages but they clung on for a sixth victory from nine league games at St Andrew's.

Can you compete for promotion if you're top two at home and bottom four away? Maybe not. Blues will need to take more points away from home if they are to last the distance but having a fortress like St Andrew's is a start.

Only runaway leaders Coventry City have a better home record than Blues. Six wins, two draws and one defeat from nine games is an outstanding record.
