Incredible best is not a fluke

If anyone thought that Justin Davies’ recent startling personal best of 1min 44.35secs was a one-off had better think again after he followed that up with another superb performance.

- Kevin Fahey

The former Running Bath/Chron competition winner travelled to Croatia for the Boris Hanzekovic Memorial in Zagreb and clocked another superb time of 1:44.87secs

That is not only his second fastest time ever but it was also another impressive victory after he also marked his initial breakthrough performance at the start of the month with a win in the Belfast Irish Milers Meet.

So that is two very fast times - the PB puts him number two in the UK Rankings after Olympian Max Burgin took over at number one with an excellent lifetime best of 1:43.34 at the Wanda Diamond League meeting in Morocco - and both he and Burgin are the only two so far inside the qualifying standard for the World Championships in Japan.

“T am really happy with that as it proves more to me than anyone else that my PB was not a fluke” said Davies.

“T have proved that I am capable of running fast times and to beat a strong field was a nice confidence boost as well. It was very satisfying and a very good feeling.
