Xi pledges closer Thailand ties

Chinese President Xi Jinping has pledged closer ties with Thailand during talks with the first reigning Thai monarch to visit China since diplomatic relations were established 50 years ago.

His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Phra Vajiraklaochaoyuhua, who has rarely undertaken overseas state visits since ascending the throne nine years ago, is in Beijing with Her Majesty Queen Suthida Bajrasudhabimalalakshana for his first official visit to China until Monday.
Describing the two countries as “family”, Mr Xi told the royal couple that China would “strengthen strategic alignment” with Thailand, according to state broadcaster CCTV.
