Trump wants 2 NY mayoral candidates to drop out

President Donald Trump said he would like to see two candidates drop out of the race for New York City mayor in order to improve the chances of defeating Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani.

Mr Trump denied when asked Thursday if he was encouraging specific candidates to end their campaigns, but stressed that Mr Mamdani's opposition should rally around a single candidate.
"I prefer not to have a communist mayor of New York City," Mr Trump said during a dinner with tech executives at the White House. "I would like to see two people drop out and have it be one on one. And I think that's a race that could be won."
