Trump names top adviser to Fed board

President Donald Trump has nominated his top economic adviser, Stephen Miran, to serve as a governor at the Federal Reserve, an institution the president has repeatedly attacked for failing to agree to his demands for lower borrowing costs.

The opportunity to reshape the top ranks of the central bank came after Adriana Kugler, a governor, unexpectedly announced last week that she was stepping down early from her position. Her term was set to expire Jan 31.

Mr Miran has in the past criticised the Fed and its chair, Jerome Powell. “He has been with me from the beginning of my Second Term,” Trump wrote on social media, “and his expertise in the World of Economics is unparalleled.”
